Osama Is…Dead?!
Music of the Moment – Miley Cyrus – Party in the USA
.
I’m blogging this as it happens because I feel that it is completely necessary.
It’s so weird to think that almost ten years ago, myself and so many of my friends were so young. I was in Mr.Pitrelli’s 4th grade English class when I heard the news, even with the teachers trying so hard to hide it from all of us, that the US had been attacked by terrorists. When I think about it now, my little cousin is in that same situation. Iwonder if he can grasp what is happening, because I don’t think most of us could back then.
.
There’s something else. Looking at all of my friends’ statuses on Facebook and the texts I’ve received, we can all understand and comprehend what is happening, what this could mean for the future of our country, and the world for that matter. It’s incredible.
So here I am, almost ten years later, blogging as it happens in my dorm, room 35 in Crawford Hall at Allegheny College. Where are you? Where were you ten years ago? .

One last thing.
There is something to be said about a bunch of complete strangers coming together to sing the National Anthem and God Bless America, followed by chants of U.S.A.
.
God Bless America.

Ahhhh… Justice is FINALLY handed down! While this is no way mans the end of terrorism, it means that the terror cells have taken a huge hit. They may try retaliating, so it’s important to be vigilent. However, it is a day of celebration in the good ‘ole USA!!!
On 9/11/01, I was at work, which was just a few miles from Hopkins airport. We were notified that the plane that inevitably crashed into the field in PA had turned around just above our heads. I remember the moment it was obvious that this wasn’t jsut a “plane crash in the WTC”… I knew life changed. Jeremy was only 3 days away from turning 2. You 3 were all so young yet. I just felt a sense of loss because of what was, and what you guys would never know. How Jeremy & all of my nieces & nephews would never know the true feeling of “nnocent freedoms” . It was heart wrenching to watch the television coverage, yet I couldn’t be pried away from it. Jeremy kept saying “plane crash!” My boss at work at the time announced “IT’s work as usual people!” and I thought “It will never be life as usual again!”
Then last night, I lay in bed as Uncle Al & I toyed with the idea that bin Laden was killed… and then it was announced. It was like the weight of the world was taken off my shoulders. My boys & my nieces and nephews won’t have to deal with this SOB in their futures. They won’t have to worry about their kids living lifes where “Osama Bin Laden” is an every day word. His death in no way means the end of terror. He has faithful followers who will most likely seek revenge. But the US has proved its tenacity in its fight against terror. Today is a new day… I remember thinking “It’s a shame the country will probably never feel this united again” but I was wrong. Today, we all came together again.. united as one to celebrate the capture & death of OBL. His final judgement will be made by God… but the USA arranged the meeting!
As for your 100th blog… this topic is fitting! Just as last night, it was announced that OBL was dead during a NY baseball game, in the 9th inning, scored tied 1-1!!
I can say now that my oldest son is 13, he doesnt remember what happened nearly 10 yrs ago, and now I am her explaining to him what went down on that historic day. Now that history was made again tonight I am letting him know who this man is and what he did. With that being said I am still living in this shithole town where i was when everything happened that horrible day. Congrats to you on this your 100th blog, and thank you for all your blogs as they make great reading material. I look foward to reading more of your blogs. Keep up the good work.
Great blog BJ! I think you are absolutely right, it’s sad that it took our country something like this to come together and appreciate our “brotherhood” or our patriotism but you’re correct in saying that it is great to see.
I remember exactly where I was ten years ago. My friend had told me that all the bridges had been closed down and I didn’t really understand what was going on until I got home and my mom tried to explain what had happened. And tonight, I was sitting on the couch with my dad, watching our baseball game. News at the game spread like wildfire and within two minutes of the announcers delivering the news, the crowd had started chanting “USA”. I brought on goosebumps and tears that I was seeing fans of my team and our rivals holding hands and singing together.
Anyway, congratulations on your 100th blog! I think this was a great one! I’ll see you in class on Tuesday!
